5 Some sketchbook stuff & roughs so far.. (Self defined)

Just to prove I have been doing something..

These are just rough/initial ideas from the lines in the book that stood out for me.
I also decided it was time to recycle some of my old Vogues so I ripped them up first and found some images I think I could base my ideas on later.
Lily Cole's doll face is amazing (bit scary).

I miss

taking photos.
Need to start again.

Paris

Miss Eloise Bailey wanted me to draw her an eiffel tower for ink times.
C'est trés difficile pour moi.

4 Sliding down into the money sty (Self Defined)

I really, really can't get into this project..

3 Walter take two (Self Defined)

I said I wanted to do more location drawing but I'm starting to think I want to do a lot more with people... but we'll see.
I wouldn't include text in my images, I'm just brainstorming still...

Wednesday 24 March 2010

This is the longest night..

I just finished the new episode of Lost. Sick.
I am annoyed at the lack of inspiration for my new project, I get told I can do whatever I want so I choose something and still end up doing other things on the side.

I got bored last night.. I don't want that as a tattoo... but I do want another one...
I think Jack Hughes should design me one....

Can't sleep

So enjoyable. I love her blog, people should follow it.

2 Walter (Self Defined)

At the moment I'm just looking at the notes I made from first reading the book and drawing a few random things to see if it takes me anywhere.
I tried to draw Uncle Walter from the description of him in the book but it didn't work out very well so I decided to use Alfred Hitchcock as a base.. unfortunately it just looks like Hitchcock with a moustache..

1 Pink Gin (Self Defined Project)

"He could recall everything, from his first pink gin before he started out to Dora's peach-coloured garters"

I don't know whether to include the text in my images..
Anyway I'm just brainstorming at the moment.. will see what happens.
I need to go location drawing a lot this easter I think.

Spanish Sahara

I have 10 images to produce for my self defined.. and zero motivation

Here is a video instead.. The lead singer is a douche but this video is so lovely to look at.

Rough Sunday

I have an idea! Going to illustrate 'Keep The Aspidistra Flying' by George Orwell.
But I need to read it first and I don't have the book yet so not the best start.

Listening to Sallyforth instead, I love this photo.
Where are all the years going? x

Stephen Jug

I think I'm giving up on Fry already.
I wanted to do my project on antiques for our generation so toby jugs with Stephen Fry's head or like Jonathon Ross' head or whatever but I'm starting to think it might be pretty tricky. And time consuming considering it takes me so long to make him like 50% like Fry.

Square one again

P.S. The more I look at this the more he looks like Alan Rickman..

First 'commission'

I painted this for Liz for her mam for Mother's Day.
I think I'll try and start doing a few more soon so let me know if anyone wants one?

Still stuck

Continuing with my mission to draw Stephen Fry.. it's hard.
This isn't finished..

And I am still stuck on what to do for my self defined project.

Tuesday 9 March 2010

Boy oh boy

I see my failure to draw a decent bear as a reflection of my future failings as an illustrator.
Every illustrator should be able to draw a bear.. it's the rules.
I am very stuck on ideas for my self defined project. I want to do it on Stephen Fry but he is quite difficult to draw..

P.S. Why can't I stop drawing animals?

22 Colour? (E.E.P)

I'm not sure I really want colour in the back. I did try scanning in brown paper but it looked bad.
If I do have colour I want a really 'sicky' one which is why I started with that bright yellow but I think it's a bit much so I went to the other extreme of gross sludge colour which is a lot subtler but I'm still not sure...

21 Mish mash (E.E.P)

I definitely don't like the second one but I'm just playing around with different patterns to see what happens.

20 (E.E.P)

I think I prefer the chihuahua one still. I prefer that the text is a bit less obvious because I don't want these to look like some sort of campaign poster, I want to to be more of a picture than a poster.. if that makes sense.

19 (E.E.P)

After starting to test out the whole wallpaper/pattern idea I realised the copies I was working with were pretty poor because they'd been photocopied then scanned so had lost a lot of the original colour, so I rescanned them all and started again.
I'm actually really pleased with them all and now it's just a case of playing around with adding text and deciding which one looks best. I'm really liking the chihuahua one just because it's like a proper pattern because they all sort of fit together. I don't really like the pug one. Also wondering whether to make the other ones smaller so I can fit more on them seeing as that's how the chihuahua one is and it looks the best. Thoughts?

Thursday 4 March 2010

Ick

My ancient mac keeps crashing Photoshop.. So I give up and will have to go in to uni tomorrow on my day off.

Wednesday 3 March 2010

18 (E.E.P)

Just sort of playing around with the new idea now, I want to have as many variations as possible which is a lot easier to achieve now I've got everything in photoshop. I'd quite like to have no words and just dog faces but then it won't be as relevant to the whole idea of 'Resistance' and might just look a bit random.
I'm also thinking of not have rows of the same image but maybe mixing them up randomly though I'm not sure I have enough different dogs for that.
I'd quite like just one image repeated loads and loads of times but I feel like that might be a waste to only use one.

P.S. I might have to repaint some of the 'biscuits' because they are starting to remind me of giant peanuts

17 (E.E.P)

New composition idea: wallpaper/pattern of gross dog faces.
I initially went photocopy crazy so I could start testing the idea then remembered there was a thing called 'Photoshop'.
I sort of which I'd used it all along for composition, would have saved me a lot of time and money.

Claim to Fame

Today I served a man called Ugo Monye some converse.
Apparently he is a big famous rugby man. Interesting? Not really. But Ross was impressed...
