Laika

Laika was the first animal to orbit the earth as well as the first animal to die in orbit.

She was a stray dog picked off the street and chosen as the occupant for Sputnik 2, November 3rd 1957.

She was likely to have died hours after launch from over heating and there was no expectation for her survival.

This experiment paved the way for human spaceflight.

The story always makes me sad so I decided to draw a tribute..

I think it’s a Saber Tooth Tiger skull but the description was in German.

Was looking forward to an afternoon of drawing until disaster struck..

Now I'm out of ink.
