12 (E.E.P)

The one on the right is supposed to have the health issues coming out of it's mouth though because I transferred them they came out backwards.. quite like how it looks..
Also quite liking putting dogs ontop of the brains but I don't think it's very 'gettable'...

These aren't really definite compositions, I'm trying to think of a way to incorporate text into it though I don't really have many ideas for phrases or words. There was one in one of the telegraph articles where a man said something like 'In effect we are breeding them to death' so I took the words above from that.
I don't know if they're getting a bit severe, I don't want them to look like some sort of campaign.
Definitely over inked them though, so drippy.

11 composition composition (E.E.P)

Struggling with composition ideas at the moment. Just doing lots of little rough things.
The gel transfer stuff is good for composition ideas, saves me having to redraw the same things out over and over. Joe and Leeves are genius'

10 (E.E.P)

I really want to get this gel transfer stuff right but it goes all blotchy, I think it might be the ink and I need to use a proper photocopier at uni instead to get a clearer picture.
The bottom one was just me waiting for things to dry, I felt sick the whole time I was drawing it.
Been looking at lots of articles about Crufts and how the RSPCA aren't supporting them anymore because of all the inbreeding etc etc..

There are loads on the Telegraph website

9 Static (E.E.P)

I was asked to go back to brainstorming (haha) compositions and fine tuning my whole idea.. and now I'm really stuck. After Joe mentioned that english bull terriers look a bit like 'they have downs' I've started thinking about whether a lot of pure bred/inbred dogs might actually have mental disabilities. The only way I can thinking of representing mental deterioration is by drawing deformed brains.. I don't know whether that's insulting or not.. I don't mean it to be?
Anyway, I need to research more on Crufts and how certain breeds need certain defined features etc etc.

7 (E.E.P)

Decided chihuahuas were getting a bit repetitive so I'm going to start looking at english bull terriers - I think I can do a lot of gross things with their skulls...

6 (E.E.P.)

Simone told me I should start focusing on the features breeders try to exaggerate through inbreeding and how they might look even further down the line - or think of my own OTT examples so I've just started extending body parts, making eyes bigger and still thinking of the whole lovely 'cherry eye' thing.

5 Carbon Paper (E.E.P)

I don't like throwing away the used carbon paper..

4 Cherry Eye (E.E.P)

Had to take photos because my scanner's having a tantrum.
I'm quite pleased with my watercolour chihuahua, think it works a lot better than ink.
Also I want to make the dogs look a lot more grim and grotesque, thought Jenny Saville would be a good person to look at because of her burn victim paintings:

3 (E.E.P.)

Trying to use materials other than ink as well as experiment with space, scale etc

2 (E.E.P.)

Thought laying the images out in a sort of medical diagram sort of way would help make the illnesses more relevant to the pictures but it's still not really working. Spoke to Steve and he said I need to experiment more with depth and other materials. I also need to start illustrating the deformities instead of writing them.

I've also been looking for comparative photos of how breeds first looked and how they look now.. haven't found many yet:
